Meet Ed Zabinski

Ed Zabinski, who was born in Dodgeville, Wisconsin and grew up in Ely, is a graduate of Vermillion Community College, St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs.  Living in Grand Rapids since 1980, he is Senior Vice President of Grand Rapids State Bank and the Grand Rapids City Councilor.

What do you value most about living in Grand Rapids? It’s a vibrant, small town in an area blessed with abundant natural resources.

What made you want to get involved in the Common Chords project? It’s a wonderfully unusual opportunity to bring a statewide focus to Grand Rapids’ culture of creativity.

What is the most memorable music/performing arts experience you’ve ever had? Seeing Cats in a London West End theater in 1985

What are you looking forward to most in the Common Chords partnership? Watching the Orchestra perform in unusual venues

How do you like to spend time when you are not working? Biking, canoeing and camping in the Quetico/BWCA; travel, working around the house, volunteering, handball.

What quality do you most admire in others? A sense of humor

What are three of your favorite possessions? Bicycle, canoe, Jeep

Which good book have you read most recently? Wolf Hall

What is your one desert island must-have? A cask of Lagavulin (single-malt Scotch)

Share something about yourself that your fellow Common Chords Committee members wouldn’t necessarily know. I make myself a full Irish breakfast every morning.

What made you want to get involved in the Common Chords project? I was asked to help by my friends, Kathy and Steve.
